My husband, Billy, and I share a heart connection, in more ways than one.
We have both suffered a “primal wound”. His birth mother died during his birth, and my son was taken right after his birth and given to adoptive parents (as you know without my consent).
When we met we did not know how our lives were so similar. As our relationship grew we shared our losses to discover how different, yet similar, our lives were.
Billy found out in his early 40’s that his mother was not really his birth mother. This is the story of when he found out.
After a fall that nearly killed his Mother, about a year earlier, she asked Billy out to a movie and then they went for lunch. She had a bag with her that she had been carrying around. He noticed the bag, and wondered about it, but didn’t ask
She had been acting strangely lately. Billy was concerned she may be very ill.
She then said to him ‘I have something to tell you’. She basically gave him a run down, that his birth mother died giving birth to him.
He said he didn’t know what to say. She told him that she had to tell him after the accident because his father, who was his birth father, would not and she was afraid that if anything happened to her he would never know the truth.
Then she started to pull things out of the bag and said ‘these belonged to your mother’. She showed Billy items, a few photographs, and wedding rings. He was stunned.
But when he saw his birth mothers picture he finally felt he knew who he was. He looked so much like her.
He had always felt like a lost soul.
That day opened up something he always felt was missing in his life. He will never get the chance to meet his birth mother, of course, but it gave him answers.
Billy and I share so much in this birth mother / birth child scenario.
We talk often about our ‘birth’ connection. Things I read and ask him how he feels. Issues with my birth son and he gives me such good advise.
We are like the heart and soul of each end, birth mother and birth child, and how wonderful we can share this, help each other, and hopefully help you as well.
